Questa Library Moving On

We are moving on! Summer Reading Program was a success. Hosting a hub for the Questa Studio Tour was a delight, and even got us 10 new patrons. The FQPL book sale will pay for another children’s program. The Questa Quilt Guild has been meeting here. Many visitors have stopped by to check out the library on their way through Questa. The most popular word heard as people come through the doors is “WOW!” The current art exhibit is the International “Drawing Box A5 Exhibition.” Our library is alive and well!

February is 1/3 behind us and we have spring to look forward to! We also have an expanded library to look forward to! The builder will be breaking through the wall between the old and new buildings any day now. To get ready, we have been moving books and furniture out of the way. The bookcase on the east wall has been cut and remade to fit on two walls of the new children’s room. We are repurposing wherever appropriate, but mostly you can look forward to a fresh, new building with new furnishings and equipment. A clean environment with many surprises awaits you in your new library expansion. (That sounds like a travel resort advertisement!) Your library.

Here We Grow | Do You See What I See?

Growing older sometimes means getting excited about the most basic things in life. I am so grateful every day to be part of this incredible library. And I am so excited to see the expansion happen. Can you imagine how excited I was yesterday to see the workmen installing windows? So excited! The windows are beautiful. Pretty soon we will be in the building looking out at our magnificent mountains through those windows. Looking out and knowing our village is so fortunate to have a growing library for all of us to use and enjoy.

Where Have I Been?

I have missed posting for the last few weeks! It was a busy time getting books ready for the Alta Vista book giveaway. Books went to the Head Start kids, too. And then there was Christmas. The workmen have moved mostly inside so I can no longer see what they are doing. (But I can still hear them!) Thankfully, many of our patrons kept me busy with interlibrary loans and curbside requests. Plans for our 2021 Summer Reading Program got underway, too. So I have been busy. There is a new photo from last week posted!

Here We Grow | Week 8

Our little library is going and growing! The front entrance is obvious now. The trusses are sheathed over the office/reception/children’s area. Trusses were being put into place over the archive/meeting room this afternoon. This morning I began a review of the summer reading materials. I couldn’t help but think how the building will be completed and open by summer. Hopefully we will be able to gather our children together in some fashion and have a fun-filled program for them. In the meantime…wash your hands, wear your mask, social distance, and don’t eat too much pumpkin pie!

Here We Grow | weeks 6 & 7

Library expansion. How exciting is this? Tuesday of week 6 at the library was definitely concrete pouring day. So many people on site and so much work accomplished so quickly. The foundation truly was a work of skilled craftsmen.

Week 7 was all about framing up outside walls, receiving trusses, and getting part of the sheathing up. We could see the outside windows on the west side. And we could see in the front entrance and right out the back. What a spectacular view!

Oh my! Week 4 went by and then Week 5. They actually looked pretty much the same. The crew got the foundation ready for inspections and pouring concrete. Pour was scheduled for Tuesday. You remember Tuesday? We were all still digging out of 16″ plus of snow. You probably looked at the forecast and said, “the weatherman thinks we will have up to 12 inches of snow! Ha ha! That won’t happen this early in the season.” That’s what I said! Well, we were wrong and we had to shovel a lot of snow. The contractor’s crew shoveled off the foundation this week, let it drain a bit, and then carefully put the tarps back on. Next anticipated concrete day: Tuesday, November 3.
